What is Conscience?, invites its audience to verbally participate in a photographic documentary of black and white images taken from 2002 to the present. In celebration of the first amendment during a time of war.
Another facet to this show, an 8.5 minute film where conscientious objectors talk briefly of why they made the decisions they did. Featured in the film are conscientious objectors from the Iraq, Vietnam, and WWII conflicts.
The second part of this show will focus on conscientious objectors of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Many ask how there can be conscientious objectors when there is an all volunteer military, unlike previous conflicts when there was a draft. Contrary to popular belief one does not have to be drafted in order to have a change of heart. One may declare themselves as a conscientious objector while in the military, and receive a honorable discharge.
Following the film will be a panel discussion with questions and answers regarding the handling of conscientious objectors in today’s military, and the many who are now on lists of human rights groups classified as “prisoners of conscience”.
